My friend came to me today about her husband reciving a call from a guy named "Tyler Gates" from 212-624-9759 - He told her husband that he was from a company that governs the sweepstakes companys and makes sure they pay the winners and lucky for him that they did this because he had won $450,000 and all he had to do is pay an insurance bond of $2,500 for the courier to deliver his money to him and if he worried that it was not for real then to call the agent "James Cooper" at 202-821-4262 that had been assigned to him at the FTC - These people called him several times over the past week telling him how real this was and how he should Western Union the $2,500 for the insurance bond - her husband was convinced that this was real - he told her that the company told him he couldn't tell anyone about his winning or about this company that was helping him get his winnings because they
don't advertise like that - when I heard that I saw a big shiney sign with flashing lights saying "Warning Warning Danger"
So I got online and found a list of warnings and signs of scams - her husband then in a dishearted way gave me all the information on who had been calling him - I in turn looked up the real FTC Agent James
Cooper who has nothing to do with sweepstakes winnings made sure what his real phone number was.
Then proceeded to call back both of the scammers telling them I was his wife - first was "Tyler Gates", who may I say, really tried to hold it together while I asked him all the addresses and phone numbers of of every agency that may even be remotely involved with anything to do with sweepstakes in DC - NY - NV - I asked for certified letters of winnings, business licens, sweepstakes bonding licens and numbers for the sweepstakes company in NY - Then I told him I had talked to the NY Sweepstakes Commission & the FTC and said that the real James Cooper has nothing to do with sweepstakes plus the number that "Tyler Gates" gave me for "James Cooper" was not an FTC number - that got me yelled at and hung up on - LOL...
I must say at this time I had not spoke with anyone at the FTC yet so what happened next I found rather amusing....
I then called the "Agent James Cooper" - who may I say sounds nothing like the real FTC Agent James Cooper of the Office of Policy Planning - As soon as he got on the phone he started asking me why I called and disturbed his office and why I was calling causing problems at the insurance company by acusing them of not being legit... he then informed me that his secretary did not want me calling his office again and wanted to know if my husband knew I was callling and starting trouble at the insurance company and the FTC - I stated yes he did - which my friends hubsand knew I was calling for them - so
"Agent James Cooper" stated he wouldn't talk to me any longer about my husbands winnings untill he spoke with him about the fact that he was not suppose to tell anyone about his winning this money.... then he hung up on me....
SCAM!!!! Oh and I called the FTC help line and filed a report with them and they said they don't do nothing with delivery of sweepstakes money - never have - never will - also filed a complaint with Lloyds of London about them saying they were an american branch of them called Lloyds of America... yeah - Lloyds of London is still called Lloyds of London even over here in the states... just look it up on the web.... Scammers are stupid - LOL....
