Caller ID was 21-322-6783. 9:58am 4/14/12.
It was an auto-dialer, because when I answered I heard ringing and then he picked up. It was a man with an indistinguishable accent who asked for me by name (no surprise, I'm listed) and said he was calling because I've been having errors and pop-ups. I knew immediately it was a scam because I maintain my protection suite rigorously and have had no recent problems. I politely told him he's calling the wrong person because I'm a computer technician (half-truth... I'm a software support specialist), no thank you to his offer, and please don't call this number again. He told me to F* OFF as he was hanging up on me.
I have been on the National Do Not Call Registry for years. Got another call 2 minutes later from a blocked caller but there was nobody on the other end. Not sure if that was related.
I've posted this info on other caller ID numbers similar to the one that called me, so I'm sorry if it looks like I'm spamming this site with my comments. I just want to make this scam visible to as many people as possible!!
We keep getting scam calls from this number too but we don't answer. The machine picks up and it rings. As someone else said a man's voice says hello and then hangs up when we don't answer. Thanks for ID-ing the scam for everyone!
Called me at 10:55 AM, when I picked up, it rang his and he picked up. He tried to say my name (he failed miserably), he's from India alright. He told me that there were problems with my computer (haha..whatever) and if I could turn on my computer. I won't repeat what I told him, but is he's so smart, and would know that about my computer, why would he ask me to turn it on? It was on already... :-P
Was surprised though that they even use phones right now. My guess is that he's using a VOIP provider (google voice?) and have that linked to his cellphone or so (hence the ring back to his own phone).
Received a call from 21-322-6783 at 12:30pm....it was a woman with an accent who told me that she was from a world company which has information that someone was trying to log into my computer and that the company had software to stop it. When I asked for the name of the company several times (because I could not understand what she said), she got very mad. She told me to stop interrupting her or she would hang up. I told her to hang up. She told me to go to my computer and turn it on so she could fix it....I started laughing and said, "Do you think I'm stupid?" She hung up. What a scam! PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS NUMBER!
Got a call from this number at 9AM they said they were from Windows Service Center and they had been getting virus alerts from my computer. He said I need to go turn on my computer, well if they are getting alerts they would know it we on. This guy had a very heavy accent too and when I answered the phone it did a call back to him then he answered. So beware they are changing their scams!!
