Phone just rang a minute ago with (213) 257-5233 / Los Angeles as the ID. Did not answer and they left no message. After reading all the other reports, it's clearly a telemarket scam somehow masking their ID with a real business number. I don't know why these still exist. Seriously, are people really going to buy what they are trying to sell?! Pointless.
I was thinking that number was a call from an LA area car rental place my sister had used, but when I called that number back within 4 minutes, I got a verizon operator voice saying that number is no longer in service. Wth?!
RE: the do not call list. I spoke to the feds and cannot believe that they cannot do something about it. while i think that our "respresentatives" in congress should be thrown under the bus, here is a better way and everyone makes money.
In the past, your own telephone co. could cram your bill with things that you did not order. Working along that same line, report the violators to your phone co. who then can cram the violater for $2: one for you and one for the phone co. The second time this happens, it's $2 for you and $2 for the phone co. etc. Eventually the violaters will get the idea that do not call means something, they may be paying a big bill, and/or have their line disconnected for non-payment. In any case, this should make life rouh for the violators, something our lazy [***] government cannot do.
