I completely feel you. I thought it was a bit crazy when they sent the check but it had no return address... luckily I have not yet deposited the check, the only thing they have from me is my name and a different address on which I have not listed my residence. I'm simply a college kid trying to find a way to pay tuition, and jerkoffs like this one leech off of needy people like us...
I recieved an email from a gentleman named David Mattison regarding a resume I had sent him. He states that he needs someone to deposit checks into their account and then wire money to an unnamed orphanidge via Western Union. Sounds kind of fishy....
I STUPIDLY responded to the same ad via Craigslist Dallas and now they have a copy of my Resume with ALL my personal details (fortunately I NEVER divulge my SS#)
This scam is DANGEROUS...
Quite simply what they do is they use stolen cheques to send to you, you place them in your account and if they clear they have your home address and they come and collect the money or the POLICE come and arrest you! Same happens with stolen credit cards, they buy things, ship them to your home and collect before the POLICE do.
The funny thing is that Craigslist CHARGE $25 to place ads for jobs...are these ads paid for with stolen credit cards????
It is the one thing I HATE about Craigslist (NO VALIDATION!!) and it needs to be corrected ASAP.
Hey I got the same offer. It's the new way to scam. Whenever you have a for sale ad on craiglist or whatever, you will receive an email from someone that says is interested and he will have his friend send you a check or money order for more the amount of your price. For example: Your price in the ad is $800, he will send you $4000 and ask you to send him the remaining after you deduct your amount of $800.
After you send him his money, you will receive a notice from your bank that the check you deposited is fake and that you need to cover the $4000 immediately because is a fraud and they will not waste time to prosecute.
David Mattison in some way will pull the same scam some other way. Probably, you receive a donation check and you are suppose to cash it, buy something and send the remaining to him via wire or other quick way to send.
I hate that, I am unemployed and some jerk raised in a dysfunctional family tries to add to your suffering.
