They keep calling my number. They say my spouse owes a $3500 bill, but they will gladly take $1700 for a settlement. Funny thing is they can't come up with the $3500 in charges, what the detail billing is, but they do tell me it is over 15 years old. The company they say they are calling for is Citibank. It'll be a cold day in hell before I pay for something I know nothing about.
I recieved a letter from a Law Firm (?) from New York offering me the opportunity to pay off an old debt. I was actually excited at the idea of reducing my $1700.00 debt down to only 40%. Naturally I was curious, so I called them. Yep, they were all Indian (dot, not feather) and I could hear celebrating in the background about someone meeting thier $200,000.00 mark. I became a little aprehensive, but I usually give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I agreed to send them a check next day air. They kept pressuring me to give them my bank info and check number over the phone, but I stuck it out and said no. After speaking with them I immediately looked them up on the internet...YEP frauds, scam artist all ove rthe place. I did not send my check and they are starting with the harrasing calls already!
I have been getting calls about a REALLY old credit card-the information that has been given to me is all bits and peices that could have been obtained from my credit report. After a few harassing phone calls from yes-someone from India-I have gotten very suspicious. Offers to pay down the balance, every time I request something from the bank itself they change the subject and one caller said he would send it and I never got anything. Just got a call from 213-260-6710 this morning with no message left. I am considering changing my number what can I do to prove they are legitimately collecting on a debt?
