Picked up the phone and it is a Student Loan Scam (today anyway .... sure they perpetrate many different ones) .... and, most likely, a spoofed phone number. A prerecorded number comes on and tells the recipient of the call to press 1 for a rep or some other number to decline the offer. Out of curiosity I pressed 1 and it rang and rang. When it picked up it was another recording stating that all operators are busy and to leave your name and number ... uh ... no thanks. Since curiosity kills the cat, I will not be pressing anything from here on out. I'm afraid to think of where in the Caribbean they might route me (lol). Seriously, I hope that wasn't the case! (If it was, I will be protesting the charge)! :)
I NEVER EVER answer my phone to a number that I do not recognize. If it is a legitimate call, they will leave a message. With caller ID anyone and everyone can see who is calling. This call came up as Los Angeles, CA - don't know anyone there so I sent it to voice mail. Imagine that.....no message. If it isn't someone you know - DON'T answer the phone. If everyone would do that we could put these low life scammers out of business. Scammers have to pay to run their equipment and/or pay staff to run the phone bank. They rely on the small percentage of people to answer their phone in order to recoup their costs - and -make a profit by their unscrupulous practices. DON'T answer your phone - put them out of business.
got a call from this # today but my phone was off so a voicemail was left. Since I use youmail voicemail service, I was able to get the # from youmail. Anyway, The message was in regards to student loans & getting a discount or whatever. I DON'T HAVE any student loans & wish these people would stop calling. They call from different #s.
