Had the same thing happen today and the number that came up on the caller id was 941-961-8518. The number that I was asked to call back was a guy by the name of Shawn Taylor at 818-338-5057. This was left on my cell phone and then left at my place of employment on a public recorder, the whole office heard it. He said the exact same things to me and told me that I was looking at FEDERAL problems if I did not do what he wanted. He also told me that this was from a payday loan that I had taken out in 2008. Suspicious as crap because I have never taken one out. I called him every name in the book and then graceously hung up on him. One of the biggest red flags to me was that he had a HEAVY indian accent and the name Shawn Taylor. C'mon ~ I know better than that. I called the bank immediatly and had everything changed. Thank GOD that the banks are fully aware of this stuff and will change things in a matter of SECONDS.
GOT A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER YESTERDAY, CLAIMING TO BE WILLIAM & SCOTT ASSOCIATES. STATED THAT I OWED MONEY TO CASHNET AND THEY WERE THE ATTORNEYS TRYING TO GET THIS RESOLVED OR I WOULD BE TAKEN TO COURT. SAID I HAD TO FAX A LETTER TO 714-845-0766 STATING THAT THE CREDITOR(CASHNET) WAS ALLOWED TO DEDUCT MONEY FROM MY DEBIT CARD IN THREE PAYMENTS TO PAYOFF $895.37....WHAT AN ODD AMOUNT. I ASKED THEM TO FAX ME A LETTER STATING THAT I HAD THIS CONVERSATION WITH THEM ABOUT THIS AND THE GUY SAID HE COULDN'T... THEN I SAID, BUT YOU EXPECT ME TO FAX MY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO YOU AND YOU CAN'T FAX ANYTHING TO ME. HE TRIED TO TELL ME THAT HE WAS WORKING FOR CASHNET, NO ONE ELSE, BUT I DIDN'T BELIEVE HIM. THEY HAD MY WORK PLACE, ADDRESS, SSN, DOB AND PHONE NUMBER. I CONTACTED MY BANK AND CLOSED MY DEBIT CARD, CONTACTED CASHNET(GOT NUMBER FROM THE INTERNET) AND THEY STATED THAT THEY KNEW THIS WAS GOING ON AND THEY WANTED ME TO TALK TO THEIR FRAUD DEPARTMENT.
