Had a missed call from this CA number today. I live in the midwest and being suspicious of the number, returned the call. It belongs to a marketing company claiming to have a $100.00 gift card for you because you visited one of their affiliate websites. There are two options: press 1 to continue or 2 to put you on their do not call registry. The voice is automated.

Missed call today. No voice mail left. My default policy on out of area code phone calls with no message left is to ignore. If it was important they would have left a message. (It is not a bad idea to call your phone once or twice a year to ensure voice mail is working as expected!) Too many scams out there today to risk a callback to unknown number.
