Caller has a heavy accent--difficult to understand. Never gave his name, but said there was legal action against me, though I never verified who I was. I told him he was lying, to which he replied, "What do you mean by that?". I said, "It means you are NOT telling the truth.". He stated I should make sure I have an attorney present because there is legal action against me and then hung up.
A man called for my wife. He identified himself to be Tom Cooper from the Department of Legal Affairs for the U.S. Treasury Department. He said my wife was being sued and he wanted to give her notice so that the process could start. I asked why wasn't she sent a letter regarding such a suit or proposed litigation. He said a certified letter had come back to the department and that was the reason for his telephone call to help her out. What first notice that he was from India, Fiji, whatever and had a very strong accent but with a name, Cooper. I don't thinks so. Secondly, I work from home a receive all mail daily and distribute it to my wife and others. If there is a certified letter, I sign for it, if it is not restricted delivery but in any event I would have know of any such letter. Thirdly, he didn't provide the normal disclaimer about being taped. Fourthly, I am a tax preparer and paralegal and know better how the various departments work. He got upset that I kept asking questions and hung up.
