Same deal. If Google wants to verify something, then can send us a letter on company letterhead. We don't provide any info over the phone to people who call to "verify information".
Again, the male caller sounded Indian with a heavy accent. The mumbled something along the lines of "Google Maps", but I could never get a straight story. When I became suspicious and started asking questions, the caller rapidly ended the conversation and hung up.
The conversation caught me so off guard that I called my roommate and neighbor to have them keep an eye out on the house (I work out of my house). Very rude, unusual, unnerving conversation.
After a number of repeated calls, I finally picked up the phone: the same google map verification phone call.
I stated that I've already verified my address with the postcard method. He didn't seem to know what I was talking about, so I politely hung up on him.
So I get a call to my business from this number.. and the Indian chick goes directly to 'Are you located at xxx White Street' - and I'm like.. who is this? She says 'theese is google maps to verify your address, what is your address' - like she is some kind of robot on its way to visit.
I asked if she was coming by or delivering a package.. .she says 'Theeese is for Googlemaps " - I asked her if she worked for Google.
She said 'yes' - Again. I say.. are YOU and employee of Google?
.. at which point she hangs up.
