I had a call and a guy was really rude and wouldn't work with me and wanted $500 up front I told him I didn't have that kind of money I'm not rich this happening 2003 when I thought it was taken care of by my bank but this guy claim not I think it's a fake what can I do
A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:
Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]
Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

They keep on harassing me and the black gentleman it's really rude when's the money up front don't want to work with you says it has to be paid in 30 days are you going to subpoena me for court so I hung up on him this happening 2003 I cash advance loan my bank was supposed to take care of it because the money was in there now they're coming at me right now in 2017 saying it wasn't paying going to subpoena me for court if I don't do something about it I tried to work with him but he wanted it all I work and I'm not rich so we'll see where it goes from here
