Called a distant relative claiming that I had used this person as a reference for a loan and asked the person to give me the message and number to call.
This was an illegal attempt by bottom feeders to collect an ancient disputed debt that had long, long ago passed the statute of limitations and been written off by the original creditor.
The woman who left the message said her name was "Jan Mitchell." Not sure how they connected to a relative with an entirely different last name but these predators are nothing if not persistent in their illegal attempts to obtain money to which they have no legal claim.
