Hello Greg and anyone else affected. 214-364-5332 is one of my cellphones that I keep forwarded to my direct office number, hosted on our office VoIP phone system. Yesterday about 4:30 pm central time that phone system was apparently compromised by a hacker / scammer, who used our system to initiate approximately 850 outgoing calls, most all in the 260 area code. After doing some research today, my number along with about 40 others were used in some sort of "phishing scheme" in the name of the Three Rivers Federal Credit Union in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. I spoke with Brandon in their IT department about an hour ago. He confirms the attempted scam.
Had it not been for about 20 calls I received yesterday between 4:30 and 5:00 pm, we would have had no idea this was even taking place. As soon as my IT tech looked at our outgoing call log and realized what was happening, we removed the phone system from service...and have been frantically re-installing and re-building the platform ever since.
Let it be known to any and all...we had nothing to do with this scenario and were in fact "scammed" ourselves, as we will have to pay the toll charges for the 850 calls placed on our outbound trunks. My apologies to anyone who sufferd from this scam. Let's hope the authorities can find them...but I suspect the trail will dead-end somewhere in Western Africa. They almost always do...
