These people are full of it! I just pulled my credit report a few months ago, so I know better. Yesterday they called and asked for me by name. I actually thought it was about a purchase I made. However, they said my address was in another state I have never even been. I said, sorry that's not me, I've never even been there. He apologized and we hung up.
Then today:
Them: This is an attempt to collect a debt.
Me: I don't have any debt
Them: I need you to verify a few digits of your social security number
Me: I don't know who you are so I would like you to verify my social security number
Them: We don't work like that
Me: Your asking me to just trust you, but I don't work like that, I need you to trust me by telling me my info.
Them: We're just going to go ahead and escalate this!
Me: Ok. Have a good one!
a guy called me had ALL my info including my ssn# . To make a long story short. He told me I owed 2500.00 for an old debt. I couldn't remember any old unpaid debts but, I thought since he had my info it must be true. When I told him to send me the paperwork and we'll work something out he said "That's not how we do things. I need to know your bank and account number. We take it directly out each month." I said that wasn't going to happen. He hung up on me saying I had 24 hours to pay the money. I knew it was a scam when he wouldn't send the paperwork. Be careful of this guy. He's good. I was scared to death. I still am he had all my info and it was correct. I've contacted the FTC, Transworld Credit, and have my credit report coming. I also have a fraud alert on my credit. He didn't give the name of the company. He broke several federal laws in that one call. Oh, the caller ID said only Plano, Texas.
I got a message today from this number as well and recognized this as a scam. He does sound very convincing but I have reached the statute of limitations or settled on any debt that I might have had from the past. And he did not leave identifying information on exactly what this pertained to. He just stated that this was confidential, was being recorded, and that I or a retained attorney need to contact this number.
the company you speak sued me and yes they are a legitimate company they put a lien on my house and they levy all my bank accounts please do not be a dead beat and run from your debts because credit is all we have money can only do so much you have to maintain good credit please don't be a waist to society ..PAY YOUR BILLS
