Caller said her name was "Wendy Schmitz with All State" and asked for the Human Resource manager. When asked the nature of the call (we have many HR employees), she said she "needs information". Then she asked for the HR director by name-the name that is publicly available online. I asked for a number for someone to call her back, as this is how our company prefers to handle calls from people we don not have an established working relationship with, and she refused to give a number . She said she would just call the CEO herself and hung up on me. Callers who refuse to leave a number to reach them, who become upset and rude when they are not immediately connected to who they wish to speak with, or who hang up on me are good at one thing-closing the door by showing that they are not professional, do not represent a professional company, and are not anyone we would ever consider doing business with. So these calls are very helpful and are logged and recorded. Thanks for all the red flags!
Says they're from "RGA Group". VERY RUDE. Called before wanting the office manager, I told him she was out on vacation (which she was) and he said that I was lying. Called again a few weeks later and said that I was wasting his time by not allowing him to bother the office manager with whatever garbage he was trying to sell. Total [***].
Keeps calling asking for the human resource department of office manager. I told him we don't have a human resource department and the office manager is out on short term leave but everyday a coupkle times a day they keep calling and asking for the human resource depart and the office manager. I tell the same answer everyday. It's really annoying. When I ask their name they won't tell me. When I ask whaqt it is in referance to they won't tell me.
Dude called and asked for our owner. I told him he's not available. I asked him how I could help him. He asked if our owner was still the owner. I told him yes and that I can help him. I told him to take us off the list b/c our owner is not interested. He said not interested in what? I said whatever you're selling b/c it's a solicitation. He said "I'm a business man and it's not a solicitation b/c if it was, he wouldn't be calling." He said he would call back and ask for the owner and hung up. Scam!
It isn't a scam. The person is probably with a network marketing company that offers goods or services to small businesses. They're taught to speak with the owner/president of the company to avoid being put through the filter of human resources/administrative assistants who aren't the ones who make the decision as to whether to get the service he's selling or offer it to their employees. I know, I used to teach people to do that very thing. He's not very good at it though. The quickest way to get a no answer is to offend the person, whomever it is, on the other end of the phone.
