I just got a phone call from investigator Douglas Harris at phone # 281-436-4589. He said he was trying to get ahold of one of my relatives. He said someone was using her personal information. I did some research on him, and found this post. Thanks everyone for giving us a "heads-up" on this person!
Getting phone calls from this one posing as an undercover agent trying to get to get information on said person. Also stated that someone tried using their social security number.
I received a call from this number today, claimed to be a private investigator with Lone Star Investigations. Said that my husband's social security number had been used by someone trying to obtain an apartment. I was skeptical. I did some research and I could not find a Lon Star Investigations company associated with this telephone number; in fact, the only Lone Star Investigations firms I found were one Fire Investigation company, and a PI firm outside of Houston. I called them, and they have no connection to anyone with this telephone number. They had all of my husband's information, though - I did not give them any info but they had his SSN and address and obviously telephone number - but then asked me where he worked and if he received Social Security because they needed to report the identity theft to the IRS. I didn't give them any info on either of those matters, but it seems to me that these people are either 1. a debt collection company using [***] methods to obtain information or 2. a straight up scam artist. Either way, if you receive a call from this number be scarce in what you tell them, or simply don't answer. If it's a debt collector, they are violating FDCPA laws. Please don't give them any information.
Yup...I got a call from an "investigator Douglas Harris" asking me to return his call. Stated that he didn't know if I was aware of someone using my Social Security number and that i was to call him back as soon as possible.
That is when i googled the number and found this board with other people having the same line. Like someone said above, either a debt collector or a scam. As for me personally, it could be a debt collector as i have a few of them hunting me down, that is why i don't answer any number i don't recognize.
