Just got the same call with the same caller ID information. I answered it and after I said "Hello" twice, a computer voice said "Hello, my name is Alice, how are you today?". I just hung up.
Caller ID shows "Voice Network I", a landline in Dallas TX. No message left when answering machine picks up. On Federal Do Not Call list for years. One of 4 robo calls we've received in a 2 hour period. VERY STRESSFUL!
Calls and clearly done by robo-dialer. I put it on speaker and I guess it couldn't electronically tell I was a live person. It gave a quick verbal que and then hung up. Called back and it is as I suspected a fake caller ID.
WE NEED TO DEMAND THAT FCC FORCES PHONE COMPANIES COME UP WITH A WAY TO CONFIRM A CALLER ID OR SHOW IT WITH AN ALERT THAT IT IS UNVERIFIED. THE VERIFICATION AND ALERT SHOULD COME FROM YOUR INDIVIDUAL PROVIDER SO THEY CAN'T FAKE THAT. IT SHOULD ALSO REQUIRE THAT THE PHONE CARRIER THAT RESPONDED WITH THE VERIFICATION TO YOUR PROVIDER ALSO BE HELD LIABLE!!!
Um ...
Perhaps it is better for you to look, before opening mouth and SHOUTING.
Here is some reading material for you:
"The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is challenging innovators to create solutions that will block illegal robocalls ... The winning solution will win $50,000 in cash ... "

UPDATE: The FTC has issued another challenge to tackle the problem of illegal robocalls – the “Zapping Rachel” contest at DEF CON 22. For more information, please visit www.ftc.gov/ZapRachel
So, stop SHOUTING, and meet that challenge!
There ARE existing laws against spoofed Caller IDs.
The laws are not obeyed by the criminals who break them.
Now we need easy ways to enforce those laws.
In the interim, buy a call blocker, and do something to protect yourself ... do not depend on others!
