And he wants you to ship those things to him. This has to be done quickly, before his check bounces.
Its a scam. The check is a well-made fake. It will bounce, but it may take several weeks. US banking regulations say your bank has to make the money available to you in a week, even if the check is still making its way through the clearing system. When it bounces you'll be liable for the full value of the check and a fee from your bank for passing a bad check. You may even face criminal charges.
Take the check, the envelope it came in, and any papers that came with it, to the post office. The postal inspectors can go after the person who mailed it.
not exactly. It's my "weekly" pay in advance plus gas money abc the money needed to buy items for kids at an orphanage. I haven't gotten the check yet but my bank can tell right away if its faulty or not.
