I have a rash of 215-383-xxxx numbers. 1820,1849, 1802, to name a few. None leave messages and if you just pick up the phone and don't say anything , you get dead air and then a disconnect. I wish I had a way to block this area code without blocking each number.
"You have stayed at one of our resorts, and you've qualified for a FREE getaway in Orlando..."
The chirpy female voice is recorded, with responses selected by computer, based on your answers to their questions. It tries to mimic an actual conversation, and it does so much better than most systems -- there's very little lag time between responses, and one response to an unintelligible or nonsensical answer is, "I'm so sorry about that; I was adjusting my headset!" While I admire the competent use of the technology, I am still annoyed by the unsolicited attempt to deceive me into parting with my time and money (because there's ALWAYS a catch; there's no such thing as a free lunch.)
I found it interesting to listen to just how unrelentingly cheerful the actress was able to sound while reading her lines. No sale, but at least they entertained me for a few minutes.
Called 8:24pm; Caller ID: "Philadelphia".
I wasn't home; VM left: same female computer-voice eloquently described by Jim in previous post.
"Her" name is Emily, and after she adjusted her headset she rattled off a cheery scam about some free vacation to Orlando. She preceded this by saying that I'd previously stayed in a resort hotel-- that wasn't true either.
...sick of these stupid calls to my cell. Let's get rid of these random calls! If I don't recognize the number, I just don't answer! These people call at least once a wk. - either on my home phone or cell! STOP IT!!!!
