This nominally Philadelphia number called a couple of days ago to a line belonging to my elderly dad, who has been the target of a lot of fraud attempts in the past 8 years or so, many related to what I call the bank fraud house next door to him in the Chicago suburbs (the nominal owner, who's probably a straw buyer, bragged about his clout--corruption in the local government--and signed false bank documents saying he lived there tho it's never had sewer or septic services since he demolished the previous house into wetlands without a permit. Also, a Florida fraudster named James Crain has been involved with the property pretty much since its construction in 2005).
Calls to this particular line increased dramatically after we filed a tax appeal for dad's house online on September 6 (but didn't list this number, which we don't give out), so I did a google search of this number and found it listed in a buyowner.com webpage for a completely different house, in a different county, that my dad and equally elderly uncle bought years ago from the estate of one deceased family member as they administered the estate of my late aunt, who, childless, wanted to benefit future generations of the family. No problem, except that my uncle didn't do his research first, or is not really comfortable with the internet, and quite probably doesn't want to admit mistakes, for at first he just told me the estate paid $4000 for the listing 5 years ago, tho I know the photos were taken since June since I was supposed to take them before a trip and he said everything was taken care of with respect to the photos when I returned. He also insists he didn't list this number, and when I called buyowner.com, the woman said it and my uncle's cellphone number (that he "lost" a month or two ago because of the incessant robocalls) both didn't show on her screen, but she'd call the "it guy." Last weekend I learned this particular number had either been removed from the donotcall list or I forgot to renew the subscription, so I did (but that doesn't take effect for 30 days). In any event, there were no legitimate leads received, and "yodle" called just after we returned to dad's house, so maybe I'm being surreptiously tracked by my cellphone by these fraudsters, not the government (I picked up to dead air--lots of mindgames). Argh. Other calls I recently picked up claimed to be on behalf of the "obama stimulus plan" and other fraudulent mixtures of fact and greed. After placing/renewing the do not call listing, I spent 9 minutes a day talking with a scammer selling reverse mortgages who insisted he was calling from Washington DC but gave an obviously wrong street address and didn't know any neighborhood names. The other calls included the obviously false 888888, as well as 385-229-3020 (federal financi), which is linked to a group of Utah fraudsters against which the Utah and Indiana attorney generals took action but failed to put out of their fraudulent business, obviously. Several are linked to Paul Maduno, who supposedly sells donotcall list compliance services to telemarketers, but who seems to be linked to lots of fraud or political corruption himself.
