I received a text from this number on the day that I signed up with Uber in their office. Text says.... Hi Dawn, this is Kate from Uber. Thank you for signing up to drive with us. How can I help you with your account?..... So I replied saying that I had no questions. Then 2 days later I get a text from phone # (657) 233-8393. That text says... You qualify for a $250 reward after completing 75 trips! Come pick up your welcome kit, get your free vehicle inspection, and finish your account in 1 easy step at 4777 Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, 90019 CA (Jiffy Lube) today between 9am-1pm. Go to http://t.uber.com/lagls for additional hours and locations. - Kate at UBER.
Obviously a scam. But how did they know I signed up with Uber and get my number? A scammer within Uber maybe? Be on notice people.
I got the same text message from the same girl named Kate, but from a different phone number: (201) 903-0962. I've been trying to figure out if this was a scam or not. I'm beginning to realize that it most likely is. But I wish I had a way to definitively confirm whether it's legitimate or not.
