Curious, many of the other commenters say this was a legit call. For me it was not. I got a voicemail on my home phone from a 'Leila' at "Business Information Group". She didn't mention anyone's name (such as who the check was about), no company, no nothing. She also could not have spoken with less enthusiasm or clarity.
googled the number and it's registered to someplace called "Vertical Screen" in pennsylvania.
but the caller asked for "whoever could do an employment verification".
This was a legitimate call asking to confirm that someone who used to work under me did in fact do so. They left a message to call them back at a 1-800 number and refer to a particular case number.
Certified screening service contacted me for a personal reference. Legit. My friend asked me if I would be a reference for her, so I expected it. And they had the company correct too... left me a message to call back at 800-803-8332 and gave me a reference number for the case.
CID shows Vertical Screen - caller said she was from Certified Screening to verify past employment of someone who previously worked here. She wanted to confirm dates and position.
