I thought this must be an out of the US number because of the 911 prefix, but I looked up the area code and its in Pennsylvania. Wierd.
Argh. Now at least I know its Everest University which used to be Florida Metropolitan University, I'm guessing the name change is due to its expanding out of the state. They also call from the number 303-996-5477, which is out of Denver.
OMG, they just called again! I answered and told them why this is very annoying, I get a prepackaged "I'm sorry I dont know what is going on, please stay on the line and I will connect you to a representative, bla bla bla." Then I sit on hold for 3 minutes, go through at least 2 phone transfers with bad hold music and finally get to talk to Leslie. Poor Leslie gets vented on a little. I wasnt too hard on her, its not her fault their outbound calling system called me 5 times in an hour and kept waking me up. Why am I sleeping past 8am? Because I was up until 3am searching the internet for a job.
So Leslie is an outside sales rep for the school. They got my number I finally figured out when I was foolishly gave out my real info to Everest University's degree program... (btw, an associate degree takes 18-24 months to complete and costs $315/credit hour x 96hours = $30,320!) Yikes.
What really makes me mad is the website that caused all this havoc claimed there were job openings paying over $35K a year, but I had to fill out the school info first, then I could see the job postings... So I did because I was curious to see what it would cost to get a degree and I was tired and punchy. So I finally fill out all the boxes with a red astrick and submit the info and then there is no way to get to the promised job listings... its a total dead end, ARgh! I did it several times trying to find the link to the promised jobs. There isn't one. This is highly deceptive. I guess the theory is that these jobs become a possibility after you go through their degree programs. That is very misleading. Why cant they have a no thanks button like Monster.com does?
I did make sure they took my number off their call list. My advice, be very careful giving out your real info on the internet, and when these numbers do call you have to say hello at least 10 times. I think they have a delay between you picking up and the calling rep even knowing you're there because its all automated and my guess is after you pick up and start speaking, their phone rings and they have to pick up too. Highly annoying but thats my guess as to the creepy silent open line. This also explains whey they never leave a message.
You could also call the school yourself and get them to take you off the list. Best of luck to you all. AJ in Florida
