Caller ID said "FamilyOPT." We don't answer if we don't recognize the caller and/or the number. Caller left no message; a legitimate caller would do so. From other reports we assume this was a telemarketer. Our phone service allows blocking of only 20 numbers. We could use 10 times that many!
Hung up on my answering machine. DNC is a joke, just gives these nuisance a55hats a data base to call from. This is the 10th nuisance call this week and it's only Wednesday. I've had the same landline number for almost 30 years now. The flippin phone companies need to provide us a way to block all this garbage for free. I am about ready to disconnect my landline permanently.

The amount of fraudulent calls I get is ridiculously overwhelming. I'm disabled due to serious chronic health issues. I'm not seeking pity...I just have no choice but to answer calls from unknown numbers. It's extremely disruptive and frustrating. Life is overwhelming enough without people making pointless phone calls.
Sorry for the vent, but I know we are all on this site for a reason.
You may not be able to do it, however, if you're able to do without an answering device, that might work in your favor. If you're answering one call, you'll be answering many more as junk callers pass your number along as one that always has an answer. If pests are dialing numbers that have no answer at all, after a while they become a waste of their time messing with. I did that with my landline and drastically cut back on the volume of of worthless calls I was getting on a daily basis.
