Sorry to say but that's a price you pay answering numbers you don't know. This is a call that's looking for both working numbers and live voices. Numbers that have an answer of any kind are far more valuable to them than ones that have nothing at all. That's how you make them lose your number fast.

Since I get too many [***] calling, I have unplugged my land line, but numbers show on my tv screen when they call. I never answer unknowns and add them to my blocker!
I plug it in when I have to make an outgoing call and don't want to use my cell phone
