Just got a call from this number, but there was no area code given, so I assumed it's local. Didn't answer, but a recording started immediately after the machine picked up......this is yet another number for the credit card interest rate scam. Surely they'll run out of numbers one of these days! Would be nice if it's in my lifetime.......
This is a HUGE scam that phishes to get your credit card info and identiy. Any thing you ask them specifically, they will hang up. Because the whole system (it's REALLY HUGE) just keeps autodialing your number. There is no way to get off their call list. They have no information on you, they don't even know what number the system dialed. If you ask what company they are calling from they will tell you VISA then they hang up. But the only way to stop the calls is to block the number. I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, but just in case some other, too polite person is reading--TELL THEM NOTHING. Don't even confirm that you have a credit card, DO give them a name, it's helpful for when they sell your number to other scammers. I give them the name of my dead first grade teacher. When people ask to speak to Carol Andersen, I tell them, "I'm terribly sorry, but she's passed away. Did you want to make a contribution to Doctor's Without Borders in her memory?" Who knows, maybe DWB might get some guilt money.
They are relentless with their calls. We are on the 'no call list' too. Today when they called, I decided to press "1" to see if it would take me to a "live person". I was ready to vent - am tired of it!! Recording told me I was caller # 22. I hung up.
