They have called me twice. I called them back when they left no message. This was a few weeks ago. Then they called again today even though I told them to remove me from their list.
In the conversation, they falsely identify that they are YOUR (my) credit card company. When you ask them which one they say "Your Mastercard/Visa" -- again, I asked "Which one?" The male customer service rep (CSR) said "the one that has the higher interest rate."
Again, I said "which one and which interest rate?"
The CSR said "You have cards with higher than 16.9% interest rate, right?" (No, I don't anymore.)
He then asked for the name of my account before I answered. I informed him that no, I don't have high rates any more so they must not actually be with MY credit card company as they originally implied. And that if they were, they'd know which card THEY were referring to.
He said "well we work with your credit card company to reduce your rates! Give me your account number and we'll check..." I cut them off.
Still would not identify their company name.
I don't know if they can be tracked down, but this of course seems to be a scam and/or fraudulent behavior.
Well trained telemarketers use computer generated phone calls all day every day to get people hooked into a polished and rehearsed piche to get you to give up your credit card info and agree to be charged for "financial services" that are 100% worthless. These people are relentless, practiced liars. Their victims are those who can't spot or stand up to fraud--the elderly, immigrants, and people who are too kind to imagine that a caller might be evil.
