This number showed up on my caller ID. I called this number back and got a Mr. Stephen Durham who identified himself as working on behalf of the Maryland State Police. He wanted me to pledge $$. When I asked him what percentage of every dollar actually makes it to the State Police the response was 'no less than 10%' and he gave me a toll free number to call for more information. Was he done? Nope! He proceeded to ask me to commit to an amount. I kept saying the percentage actually going to the police was too low. Don't answer this caller.
Just like the person above, the caller said they were from the Maryland State Police looking for donations. We explained we were out of work right now and would love to support our police but not at this time. The caller said any amount would help. We explained that we have 5 children and we could not help right now, but thank you for calling.
The fact that they won't identify themselves, gives you a hint of the tactics they use to strong-arm money out of your wallet. I can usually predict that it's a call from a so-called police beggars, if it's from a local area code. No, I don't answer any longer even though I would do anything to support the boys in blue. But, money donated to the Fraternal Order of Police is another donation to the Democrats. No thank you!! I got my call from "Unknown" with this number today, 4/26/14 at 4:50PM, EDT. I didn't answer. A warning, if you do answer and decline, in my experience, you'll get a pledge card, anyway, as if you had said yes. It's these nefarious tactics that defeats their cause.
Got a call from this number but they left no message. The scam police charities are one of the most difficult to get off the phone, best to not answer.
