Just city and state in ID is a red flag in my book. I generally do not answer them.

Just adding this info - the number apparently belongs to a phone hobbyist =

Just more proof that it is most likely a telemarketer.
You don't specify your source, but it's probably a crummy one, and is ignorant of telephone history.
"Switch" is what telephone line workers call the equipment in a central station, or a PBX, or customer-owned business phone systems - for decades.
The original equipment in central offices was actual switches, then it became relays. Nowadays it is all-electronics and computers.

There is actually a forum thread here on that subject. She is quoting what is printed on another phone lookup site. They probably have no idea what it means either. The problem lies in that it is on the net so now it must be true. I can't find the web site, let me see if I can find the thread.
