Mine came from 970-482-1410 and starts off with static and then says "this call has been placed on behalf of your local newspaper if you have any questions regarding this call please call us at 866 THE PAPER...thank you." and then a bunch of static. I started getting the calls on 18 Jan 11 and already looked at this blog so I put it in my "Telemarketing" Contact and pushed it to VM this AM when I got the recording. I've been on the DNC Registry since it began.
Received this call several times over the past several days. Latest was Sunday morning 9:48AM CST. They never leave any message. When I called back I received a message "866The Paper". Also the greeting stated that "our office is now closed" . Apparently their office is closed in order to avoid getting the type of annoying phone calls after hours and on weekends that they themselves make.
I've been receiving multiple calls daily from 240-210-7085. After reading the posts on this site, I did some searching and found that "866thepaper" appears to be associated with circulationdirect.com. This site appears to be linked to press-1.com. Looks like they provide services to newspapers, such as obtaining new subcribers, retaining existing subscribers, etc. My newspaper subscription recently ran out, which is probably why I'm receiving the calls.
Here's a quote from their site.
1-866-THE-PAPER:
The new telemarketing regulations require that we provide caller ID information and leave voice messages with households whose calls we can't take (dropped calls). We provide the "easy to remember" 1-866-THE-PAPER" so that when the curious call back, we can provide them with your best subscription offer or even a free, two-week sample! It works almost every time!!!
I have been receiving a call per day, sometimes two, for about 3 weeks now. I live in Dallas, Texas and I was sucked into a 4 week "Dallas Morning News" paper subscription. The subscription renews itself for "customer convienence." I am assuming that this number calls me in reference to the fact that I haven't paid the new subscription fees. This happened to my college roommate as well, in another city, different number, different paper, just last year.
Ditto... constant automated call, no message, pain in the rear.
Don't know if this will work or not but I went to this site (http://www.circulationservices.com/contact.shtml) and sent an email to each of the contacts listed asking them to stop calling my cell phone...wish me luck!
Response to my emails from the owner of the number:
Subject: Do Not Call request
Good Morning Sir,
Per your request, the phone number XXX-XXX-XXXX has been added to our internal Do Not Call list and will be forwarded to our client for their records as well.
Regards,
Michael Thompson
