I got a call from them too, it's a private debt collection agency that buys our debts from other companies...so they say, their goal is to get you to settle with a check over the phone andd they keep pressuring me to settle this darn JCPenny bill but I'm scared they ar going to rob me blind...anybody make any pyments t them and know????
GEMB maintains the JC Penney accounts and sold my account to RPM last year.
They are really bad debt collectors. THEY ARE PART OF LVNV FUNDING /SHERMAN FINANCE http://www.budhibbs.com/collectorpages/LVNV.htm
GEMB LETS YOUR ACCOUNT DEFAULT ON PURPOSE!
the reason I ask - is my account was not used. Until GEMB posted $100 in fraudulent charges on it - a week after removing my mailing address from my account records. They then allowed it default without making 1 call to me and then sold to this collection agency.
I contacted the Office of Thrift Supervision www.ots.gov and they contacted GEMB - my account was fully re-instated, removed from collections, and eventually they removed the charges.
They insisted that I had used the card on the JCP website to buy a gift card - and I never used my account on their website.
I believe the charges to be an inside job - someone taking advantage of the unauthorized removal of my mailing address. Knowing I would not be sent a statement to dispute the charges and explains why I never heard from JCP account collections dept..
never pay secondary bill collectors. law says you may ask them to cease and desist making phone calls. tell them you will deal only with primary debtee(in this case jc penney)
Wow! I too just called Comcast this morning and told them how I was frustrated with their lack of interest in fixing my service, but willingness to roll a truck and possibly charge me for a trip. I made them send a hit to my cable box and problem was fixed. Rep was not happy that I proved him wrong. All I needed was a hit not a truck and service charge.
4 hours later, i get this call from 2402107113. I didn't answer but found this site and now see a correlation to your experience. A coincidence? I doubt a corporation would stoop to this sort of behavior...it's too risky.
