Getting phone calls from this number on a daily basis.  Says they want a testimony, then they will report to credit reporting agencies and then report to chexsystems  I don't answer and they leave a recorded message and ask us to press one.  They never say who they are, who they want  or what they want.  Must be bottom feeder jerks.  Have followed everyone's advice and bought a call blocker.  Can't wait till it arrives.

This number has been calling me for over a month.  They are also calling my daughter telling her that they want to get a statement form me about a legal matter.  I called and they told me I owed an unknown company over $1000 from 2012.  They could not give me the name of the company claiming I owed them and would not send me any information in the mail unless I came up with a payment arrangement.  They call themselves The Division of Pretrial Assessments and even give you a case number. They have also called using 240-307-1499 and 240-307-1498.

Yes, They just called me asked for me by first name and said that I or my lawyer needed to call the office right away or hit 1 and someone would pickup… Well I was on hold for a good 5 mins and nothing but music… Said that they will come to my home… So a robot calls my house…?

Do you have an update? Now There is a post about a HUGE scam going on and the companies involved are being sued. About trying to get folks to pay  on fake debt.

This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, etc. all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Thank you! This happened to me before and it stopped for a longtime, I guess they figure it is tax time and folks have "extra" money to just throw away. I will file a complaint with the other countless off the cuff calls we get on our land line which we don't use. Again thank you and my apologizes for the other post I did not see this one until after the fact.
