Another site says this number is "card services," and apparently a trick companies do now is have their number show up as a local number to increase the likelihood that a person will answer. But since I have a modest contact list on my cell phone, any number I don't recognize gets ignored anyway. Long ago, I learned NOT to put in my phone number down as part of the contact info for anything, particularly credit cards. I would usually get hounded by customer service to apply for platinum cards, to get competitive low interest transfer rates, larger credit limit, and other unneeded and unwanted premium member perks.
Since my phone number isn't associated with anything, I'd say I'm being cold-called for whatever.
Although this call is local to me, my cell phone security app has flagged this as "Sales/Ad." Another website says this number is suspected spam.
They have called two days in a row now. The messages they leave on voice mail sounds like a boiler room/call center (a lot of noise and chattering in the background), but it's very distorted and incoherent. If you attempt to call back this number, it goes through... BUT you get one of those: "Your call is very important to us. Please stay on the line and the next available representative..." So I decided I was game for it, and waited. And waited. And waited. After five minutes of muzak and the aforementioned message repeated over and over, I heard an automated "Goodbye" before the line went dead.
