I receive a call on my answering machine today from 240-345-9091 ,,, claiming to be the IRS...and owing money.. another scam artist.. watch out..... If you owed money ,they would send a letter to you... Yes they did have foreign voice..
Just picked up a message on my answering machine, was a recording saying: "We have been trying to reach you to inform you that the IRS is filing a suit against you" and to call 240/345-9091. In the process of checking on this # I didn't realize that my husband had already called them... My husband said that he party that answered spoke w/ a heavy accent. Answering "IRS" , he wanted the warranty # - said had none, asked for tel # and SS# gave a fake one...When he claimed to have gotten the records he then informed my husband he was going to explain and don't interrupt. He said that the IRS was filing a suit against us for the years 2009 - 2014 in the amount of $9,000.00. (never explained why or what for. We could either fight them in court or settle in making arrangements with him to get the amount paid off. At that point my husband had enough and did not want to hear anymore of this scam and hung up. We have always filed and paid if there were any taxes that were due. BEWARE ALL, DO NOT LET THE AUTHORATORIC VOICE IN THE RECORDING SCARE YOU..... The REAL IRS would have sent notification in writing and NOT leave a blanket message like this. Blessings to us all!
Just got this message on my phone also. They called twice using a computer voice about that this is the last call and the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me and to call 240-345-9091. Thanks for the heads up folks! I would never call that # but I was going to call the IRS on Monday.
I also received a call from this number today, and my caller ID indicated "John". Not knowing who this might have been and because I know a number of people with the area code that was indicated, I answered the phone. Yes, it was a recording that said the same thing as indicated in the other posts - but no accent on the voice. I came straight to my computer and googled the number, and found that others have had this same experience. Always check first - so many scam artists out there.
