Yup multiple calls... Asking for Mike? They left a message on my cell phone with instructions to call them back if it wasn't me. The recording said hang up is you are not Mike because there is sensitive information in 3 seconds... Yup they gave the "Secret" information on my voice mail... I called back and spoke with Eliabeth Harris (Not sure of the spelling as she pronouced it Eleezibeeth).. Am I on Candid Camera?
Called mumbling things, trying to verify my information. Made it sound like they were with a collection agency. Wanted to verify my address and last 4 of my social when I called them a freak and hung up. Can't remember the company name they claimed to be with.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
