Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

This is a debt collector. They say they have a private business matter to discuss with you, and ask you to confirm your identity by giving the last 4 digits of your SSN, or giving your date of birth, etc. If you do not give such information, they try to intimidate you by giving you the remainder of your SSN, or DOB, and ask you to complete the information.
Someone keeps calling asking for my maiden name witch i havent used in yrs ... stating he is from MCO he wouldnt tell me when company i owed money to unless i give him my s.s ... i told him i wasnt giving him anymore into till he tell me what company oli owed money to and he told me to have a good day and hung up .
