And if you search around (as in increament the last digit in the phone number) most of the complaints about the numbers in this range have been related to debt collection for crappy apartments.
My old apartment complex decided they wanted to charge me $700 to replace a carpet. The carpet was already old when we moved in. In fact, it was one of the few apartments in the complex that had never been remodled. We took it because they gave us a lower rent because of the poor condition. Then I move out, because when I went to renew my lease they wanted to raise my rent $400, and I start getting phone calls about the $700 I owe them for the damaged carpet. On top of that, the manager (whom the staff always referes me to when I want to discuss this) is never there and doesn't return my calls. I love this area.

Same deal: apartment complex in California replaced the carpet after we moved out without doing a walkthrough (stood us up twice when we took the initiative to schedule walkthroughs) and kept our entire security deposit of $1000 and came after me for another $268 on top of that.
So Jerome is trying to collect the $268, encouraging me to pay it even though I don't owe it because it will be better for my credit history. His concern for my financial well being is very touching.
