ive just had it on gumtree myself  phone num has changed to 061428465117 is a australian area code but they used the exact marine engineer scam  things id like to do to ppl like that cant be said out loud

paypal said they won't release the funds until they get the western
union information from you due to the fact that i emailed them about
the excess payment i made.i will need you to send the £400 to my pick
up agent Headquarters where they normally confirm any commission
payment to via western union money transfer(this can be done from the
post office, as they usually have a western union agent there), i
added extra £50 to cover the western union charges which shouldn't be
more than £20-35 but just to be sure i added £50, Here is my pick up

Well sounds like these people are earn lots of money from the hard working tax people, who unfortunately fall for these professional scam merchants. I advertised a Canon camera on Gumtree and was contacted from 'James' who asked me to reply to: [email protected] telephone number 61428465117 another number I made note of 447024046861 begging me to open a Paypal account, send these details and bank details and they then wanted me to send camera abroad. But of course I wasnt born yesterday, and informed them to give me cash in hand for my camera or no deal, I then got told what are you playing at just open an account and take advert off Gumtree. I dont like being told what to do, so stopped replying to them.
The only advice I can offer is, I have advertised many items on Ebay and payment received through Paypal, and had no problems what so ever, Gumtree is a good site to sell your unwanted items as there are no fees to pay, however only sell to local people who turn up and put cash in your hands,
