I got a call from a guy asking for Tiffany, I said he had the wrong number...he got all angry and said "you don't talk to me like that, you don't know me"...so I hung up on the [***].
I got a call from a place by the number of (240) 645-0736 a few days before May-23-2009. I was not available and they left a voice mail for me to call them. As far as I know this was the first time they ever called me. I didn’t call at first because it sounded like a prank phone call to me. The message sounded like someone trying to pretend to be cereus and at the end said god bless you. I had to play the voice mail about 3 times to figure out what the number was that he told me to call back on because I could barley understand what he was saying (he was not American and I had trouble trying to figure out what he was saying) I called back on May-23-2009 to find out what was going on. I spoke to a guy named Shawn, I think he is also the same one who left the message on my voice mail. I talked to him and he explained that he was over a case against me over a loan I got from a check cashing & loan Company called Fast Cash International in California. As he was talking to me about it he said that he was giving my employer, (Masco RCG) formally (Mills pride) information about what they are going to do and information for when I have to go to Court and that he would be faxing them the papers sometime Tuesday morning. I asked him where I would be going to court and he said somewhere in Ohio that he was not for sure. I then told him that If it was to far away I would not be able to go and he said if I didn’t go I could loose my drivers license and be suspended from my job. He made out like I was a huge criminal and was in deep trouble and that who knows what they will do to me in court and that they are pressing 3 different kinds of charges on me and that it was all in gods hands now. He made it sound so bad that I was in fear for my life. I then asked him, what are they going to do murder me? And he said I don’t know. I then asked to speak to someone who spoke better English a little better so I could understand what this was all about a little better. He transferred my call to a man named Dan Cruise. I spoke to him about this and he said the same thing but in more detail and tried to scare me even more. He asked me how much money I made and I said I’m guessing around $1500 a month right now because orders are down real bad at work, but I also told him that I was just guessing on that amount and I was not for sure. He also mentioned that he was trying to get this matter resolved and asked me if I cared about what was going to happen to me or my family. And that I didn’t just owe $ 745.45, but it raised with other fee’s to $1,477.44. And that if it goes to court and they win that I could get sued for 7 to 9 thousand dollars. I asked him for the number of the Company that I borrowed the money from so I could call and talk to them and he did not tell me so I asked him who I could speak to and try and make payment arangments and he said that he was the first and the last person that I could speak to about it. I then offered a $100 a week or so much in a monthly payment until the $1,477.45 was paid in full and he said no that it was not going to work and split the bill in two and asked me if I could pay it in two payment one payment today and the other half next Saturday and I said I did not have that much money to pay it in two payments. He then said well then how are you going to pay for a lawyer and that a lawyer would cost me around three thousand dollars. He also mentioned in the conversation about what was going to happen if I didn’t pay and said how would you like to be in a dark room and kept going on and on about how I need to pay the money I owe and I asked him what was going to happen and he said that words can’t describe what they will do to me in court. I said that I can not pay this amount in two payments and he said well then have fun in a dark room and hung up. I then started looking in the phone book for lawyers and wrote a bunch of numbers down of lawyers around my area. I called back that evening around 8 p.m. May-23-2009 and spoke to Shawn again, I told him that I was going to get a lawyer, but I could not look for one until Tuesday because of the holidays and he said good. I mentioned that I would need a lawyer to go to court with me to try and make some type of payment arangments and he said No, that If I go to court it will be to late for any payment arguments and that either I would win the case or loose the case and that if I loose the case then god help me and that I could possible work for my employer for free for a certain amount and that I would be responsible for the rest on my own. I then said I was going to get a lawyer and hung up.
I got a similar call on May 23,2009 around 1pm or so. At first, I didn't pick up cause it was an UNKNOWN number but they left a message that sounded serious. I too had to play the message at least 4 times in order to make out what the man was saying. So I called back cause I was curious about what was going on. I spoke to a guy named David? I couldn't quite understand him. He told me that I had applied to some online loan called Fast Cash International and that I never paid back. I was very confused because I had never applied to these online loans. He kept cutting me off and telling me to listen to him. He had all my information, which was scary. He continued to say that the company Fast Cash International hired his firm to file a lawsuit against me and that I should get a lawyer or power of attorney. I asked him how much the company is suing me for and he said he could disclose that information, so then I asked for a number to this company so I could personally talk to them to work something out. He said that Fast Cash International has over 150 affiliated companies and that to determine which affiliate I had taken a loan from would be impossible. I insisted on the number and he refused, saying I was being difficult and not taking this situation seriously. I started to get upset because he started accusing me of being irresponsible etc. He said that if I didn't take care of this that I would be going to jail and its a serious offense. He said he's sent my work documents about garnishing wages from my paycheck. I told him well if this company is suing me than I would like the court order and lawsuit papers and to send them to my address, so I can look at them and present them to my attorney.He said NO, that he will only send them directly to my attorney. Then I started to get suspicious that it maybe a scam. Im young but definitely not stupid. I told him that its illegal to withhold information such as legal documents especially if it obtains a court order. He told me he will only send it to my attorney and that I should be in court by Wednesday in LA. I told him theres no way, I dont have time and its such short notice. So I argued with him more and again asked me how much they are suing me for and he said $900+. I told him until I see the paper, I am not going to go to LA. He kept threatening me saying that I would be going to jail. I told him what he's doing is illegal and that as soon as I get this stuff straightened out that I would make sure to come after him and make sure his license would be taken away. He told me to [***] OFF and hung up on me. I call back, he picks up again and I once again ask for his name and the firm he's calling from. He told me not to call back unless it's my attorney and hung up again. So I call back for the third time and he said that if I called back again that he will file harassment against me and hung up.
So needless to say, this is definitely a hoax and people trying to get money out of me. But to be safe, I called my uncle who is our family attorney and told me that the next time they call don't give them information but try to get their information, and call the police.
Strangest call ever but I should have known, that law firms dont really work on Saturdays and don't usually make calls.
