They called and said I was selected at random and I had won one of several prizes and I needed to go to a local hotel to claim the prize I had won. I think they were selling vacation packages. I didn't bother going.
They called my cell and told me they were from Global Escapes and that I had been selected at random based on my gmail e-mail address. I've been getting calls from this type of sales scam over the last few months. I keep telling them that I'm not interested and that I want my number removed from their calling list. Everytime they start to tell me that they are not soliciting and that I entered some sort of contest. Yea right...
They called last night and left a message for "Doris" (nobody by that name here)and gave an email address that isn't mine. Said that I had won a Lincoln Navigator and that I should call an 877 number to claim. Said that they weren't soliciting anything (yeh - right!). I will not call back.
Called and left a message on my home phone saying I had won an internet contest. I left a message.
Called back to my cell and said go to the Holiday Inn on 1/9/08 at 6 or 8 pm in Georgetown, D.C., to be in a group of 10 to possibly win a Lincoln Navigator or $45K, a big tv, $2500 or a two night vacation (4 locations to choose from). Claimed the company (Events Planner) would continue to bring in groups until all prizes were awarded (from scratch off tickets). I spoke to "Angie" and "Demetrius."
Fairly elaborate scam.
