When I asked this bozo, why we’re not dealing with the local group, and why would I want to deal with someone far away, out in Southfield, MI (near Detroit), his initial response was he didn’t understand the question.
I repeated the question, and sounding heavily-scripted he claims the local Yellow Pages people are far more busy assigned to larger accounts. Allow me to translate thanks to all that Hope and Change: the economy is in the toilet, and instead of less government, we have far more intrusive government, therefore, the local people we had some understanding and working relationship with, has been flushed.
However, what really irked me is the individual was “scripted” and had no real clue as to even what city or state he was calling to. I told him to drop the dumb negro, Ebonics-speak, or get me to a manager that perhaps might have a scintilla of more concern than this clown. You don’t “axe” me a question. You “ask” me a question. If you expect a modicum of professionalism, then clean up the dialect, given that our fees are not chump change.
He didn’t like that… which was good! You expect me to spend big bucks, and then I get some lackey on the phone that purportedly is going to handle my account, with a telemarketing-type approach isn’t going to make it.
AT&T Yellow Pages for the past 5 years or so has been going straight downhill—and the best part? They just don’t seem to care.

To Al....for all that care this Jerks business is slowly dying anyway. For a business owner to waste his time on the phone with a telemarketer shows how much time he has on his hands anyway. Obviously he has no customers or like the business owners i work with he would know not only how to market his own business but that the economy has made 10% recovery in last 8 months. I guess since his business is seeing any of the recovery he wouldn't know that. And as for the the "dumb Negro" Ebonics I happen to have bachelors in mass communications and a masters in marketing now "ain't" that something. I don't care if you spend small dollars or big dollars with an advertising program however if you were intelligent and had some type of business ownership education you would realize that not only is the Yellow pages multi million dollar advertising company that promotes thousands of business that spend thousands of dollars and makes thousands more, but mom and pop shops like Al's don't see a portion of that profit because they are to stupid and lackadaisical to do so. That is all.
