Also called me Message from "Shaun Right" (or Sean Wright?) claim to be calling from CMP about a civil matter with regards to my name and social. When they call my home number the caller id says "LNP Megapop Net"
Note when they call my cell phone a different area code shows up (matching my cell phone which is from another state)
I KNOW IT IS A SCAM - and just wanted to let anyone else who is contacted by this company to know that while they MAY have your name and social - it is a scam do NOT be threatened, do NOT engage. Try to ignore the messages / block the calls / report them to FTC / local attorney generals office.
So frustrating - Normally I can get scammers to STOP calling once i request a debt validation letter by mail or just call them back and inform them I am not responding to anything not in writing but this company has some robocall setup that wont let me block them or call them back and reach them to discuss the issue. They keep leaving message - I try and block the numbers/ignore the messages.
Remember any valid debt collector will inform you of the company name and address (which you can usually google to confirm) and have a system to accept / send communication in writing.
Got a call from this number (248) 537-9381 they said they were calling from CMP about a civil matter. I tried calling the number back and the recording said they are not set up to receive calls Not sure what kind of scam this is.Curious to know if anyone had the same experience?
I have seen that name before but we don't seem to have any information on them yet. This is because they conceal their true identity and address to avoid legal actions against them. what they are doing is described below:
This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, etc. all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I have gotten this call many times now, and they have also called my mother, and my fathers cell numbers regarding me. Same issue, I try to call back and the number does not receive calls. It is annoying that there is nothing we can do to get them to stop calling us, and the people we know. They have WAY too much personal information!
