IRS Scam call, voice mail, on Monday 10/3/16 at 12:59 pm, male Indian's voice with background noise that sounds like a telemarketing office, possibly noise from a poor cell phone connection.
"This message is intended to contact you. My name is Ken Mason and I'm calling regarding an enforcement action executed by the U.S. Treasury intending your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional attempt to avoid an initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. My number is 248-690-2101. I repeat 248-690-2101. I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you. Thank you."
Received a message from a Private caller regarding tax issues with the IRS. Caller said his name was Perry Mason. Message said to call 248-690-2101. Do not answer or return call. Scammer.
This is so annoying. But we can scam them back! Google this YouTube video "guy keeps scam IRS agent on line 40 minutes" -- it was so funny. Heavily accented voice instructs him to go buy Target Gift Cards (!!!) to repay the nonexixtent debt. Hilarity ensues. He actually convinces the caller that he is AT TARGET RIGHT NOW! He starts talking to the scammer about his lawn mower order. Very creative. The guy deserves an Oscar! I wish I'd been ready to engage them when they called a moment ago. I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face, tho.
WORST IDEA EVER: Making Caller ID optional. ("Private Name"? We don't answer)
