Called me 9/8 at 4:58pm. Said something like 'Hi this is Steve from the customer care department, can you hear me OK?". I answered, "Which customer care department?". It's obviously automated, but tricks you into thinking it's live so you say something. Then it proceeded with a pitch about how I'd been selected for a vacation deal. I hung up. These guys are getting more & more sneaky. Now they're using our local numbers! I NEVER pick up a number I don't recognize from outside my area code, but now I can't even trust local stuff. And I'm even registered on the 'do not call' website. Kind of sad...
Got a call from these knuckle heads a few days ago. Just got around to looking it up online and sure enough, the search engine popped with the number listed in several places as a phishing scam. Thought I'd drop in and let y'all know. Happy hunting y'all.
One of several spammers now using local numbers. They're all robocalls with that deceptive "can you hear me" opener to suggest a live person is calling. This garbage is rendering voice lines nearly useless since now even local calls are part of the barrage of daily harassment that phone are now subjected too. Now I can't tell when there really is a legitimate call, since these fakes are snatching up local numbers. It should be more difficult to acquire numbers in bulk, since it's unlikely they'll be used for anything but unwelcome solicitations.
