Received a call stating they had a summons for us to appear in court. It was a recording and they listed a few numbers for us to call but we hung up. We have no reason for this to happen so I knew it was a prank.
No, its not a prank, its a bill collector and what they are doing now is harassing family members that are listed in a person search of that person. My sister has a bill collector after her for a billed she had just paid to the company that she actually owed it to and now the bill collectors think they can collectmoney they would have gotten if they collected it, so they are harassing and more less trying to extort money from people. If you download the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, look up section 806 about harassing phone calls. If you get another call, call them back, be nice and simply ask them for their fax number because you have information to send them. Send them a letterl asking them along with their affiliates not to call your number xxx-xxx-xxxx. Along with the letter send a copy of the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practies Act) with it and in your letter simply suggest that if they dont have a copy of the FDCPA, that you have provided one for them. Reason why you do this by fax is because a fax machine records when something is faxed or receive to and by what phone numbers along with the names on the phones in use.
