received a NY call at 7:30 AM arizona time telling me I was being sued by the IRS and to call 253-245-3159. I called back to what sounded like an Indian call center and simultaneously searched the number. When I realized it was a scam I mentioned it to the call center guy and he hung up on me. SCAM. DO NOT CALL/ANSWER. IRS will MAIL you with any notices of legal action, per their website
I got the same call just now - from a 315-789-9404 asking me to call back the IRS because they are filing a lawsuit against me. Thinking it was a scam, I called back anyway. They said I can continue and fight the lawsuit or pay my "outstanding debt" of $4997.85. It would have to be paid electronically, of course. He kept asking if I had the $ in my account. When I refused to answer, he kept persisting with the same question. He would not answer when I asked how it intended for me to send this $ electronically. He still kept asking if I had the $ in my account. I hung up. Don't fall victim to this.
Same message -told to call same # as Jackie was given - said "you" are being sued by the IRS and to call to settle this matter. It was recorded automated message... I didn't call.. only researched internet...
