Got a call from "John" He said he got a notification that my computer has been corrupted. He told me to go to my computer and he would tell me what to do. I told him my cord wouldn't reach. He had a foreign accent. I kept making him repeat everything telling him I couldn't understand him. I asked who he worked for he spelled out Caldera tech or something like that.He said they serve Windows. I made him repeat about 5 times. I guess he got tired and gave me the number to call back 253-271-4520. He said his supervisor would answer. I said what is Your name? and he said John.
Same exact caller called my cell phone but his name was melvin. The # showed up as (209)965-7943. Told him I wasn't near my computer so he gave me (253) 271-4520 to call.
I hope people have enough common sense to know this caller is "BS"!
This was the call back number they gave when my wife asked. This scammer calls us one to two times a month. A couple of years ago I let one walk me through some parts of my computer. They lead to you to some routine cached error records and tell you those are security breaches. That's when I hung up. You can't shake their calm. *** Knowledgeable people say that the rule of thumb is that no legitimate company, or Microsoft, is going to call you on the phone asking for money.
One person wrote that they hung up when he asked for the IP address of the computer they were calling about, saying that there were several computers in the house.
