I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
I've also tried telling these fake IRS scammers that I'm going to call the police on them. I understand why you said it, because I told them the same thing.
The sad thing is, these international scammers have no fear of US law enforcement. They are apparently based somewhere in India, and no one (not even the US Government) can track them down. I consider these people to be international terrorists, because they are calling innocent Americans and threatening, harassing, and terrorizing us. I wish someone could arrest these people.
I just got the same thing saying they are freezing my bank act, suspending my license. I asked to speak w someone who spoke clear English. He was from India or somewhere w a very thick accent. He put me on mute. I've been in collections. Then came back on saying he was someone else. I let him think I believed him then said OK I know ur the same person. Can I speak w ur supervisor n again put me on mute not hold. I hung up n looked up the number and read all these posts and realized it was a scam!!!!!
I received another call but from 253-336-5361. SCAM this is the third time they called but from different numbers. I thought when you had a lawsuit against you, it comes in supeona form. These people are not too bright. PAY ATTENTION to who calls you before giving any info
Today, I picked up a call from 253-336-5361 and realized it was the fake IRS scammers (again!). It was a female voice, this time.
Yesterday, the IRS scammers left 2 messages on my voicemail. The voice sounded female, but probably was voice-modulated. Calls came from: 360-347-1794 and 760-666-2348. These scammers use more numbers and area codes than I can keep up with.
heavy accent called to say that the IRS was suing me. Interesting to note that it was only me and not my husband, though we file married filing joint. When i told him it was not the usual way the IRS contacted taxpayers, he hung up
