I got a call at our company from this number (253-444-2000). The caller asked for my husband by his legal name (so rare), but didn't want to leave a message. I came to this site and saw that you all got calls from this number and they identified themselves from a collection agency. That's not what I got when I called it back.
I got the NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION. The recorded message said they were calling with some updates, which would be ridiculous since we're not members, nor were we ever members.
Caller ID shows NRA with the local phone number (parts of Washington State). One would think this is the National Rifle Association, however from posts on other web sites this is National Recovery Agency, a scam collection agency that tries to get you to pay non existant bills. They have called the last two days at 10:09 am each day. I do not answer, they leave no message. Do not answer calls from this number as it is not legit.
We've received our share of calls to our landline, originating from this same number - the latest being just this morning (2/15) at 11:22 AM PST. Since we have no interest in the National Riffle Association (the initial presumption), the calls have gone unanswered. Based on "Fed up's" comment, I looked into the "National Recovery Agency", and discovered that the *REAL* collection agency's website splash page has a blurb declaring that they are a legitimate firm, but goes on to warn that other entities are posing as them and are using several (spoofed) phone numbers - this particular number (253-444-2000) however, is not among those listed. Aside from what I've heard in the media concerning the plight of others, I personally don't know very much about the tactics of debt collectors (as I do all that I can to avoid placing myself in their cross-hairs in the first place) - other than they can create rather large amounts of stress....scammer vermin presenting themselves as harassing collectors would certainly amplify that stress exponentially.
