That is a very large red flag, suggesting they really do not have a "legal" right to that debt.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:
* Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]

I was contacted by an individual at this number stating I defaulted on a payday loan using my PNC Bank account in 2013 and I have until the end of business to call them and give a statement of my intentions or I will be served with legal papers in my county tomorrow for bank fraud, check fraud, etc. They will only email proof of the debt. They will not mail me a copy of the proof of debt.

Can they actually do anything to you? They keep calling me, and I have no idea what they're talking about. Has anyone ever just ignored them? If so, what happened?
